The Cardinal Cup

Each ONS Lacrosse parent has made a commitment, generally a multi-year commitment, to help his/her player enjoy lacrosse, and learn to play better lacrosse. Most of us chose ONS because we value good coaching for our players. The ONS Lacrosse Foundation recognizes that the competitive lacrosse ecosystem is multi-layered, and can be expensive. Many teams that ONS competes with at regional and national tournaments are year-round teams, often they require competitive try-outs to make the team; and, generally, we compete with teams that cost $2,000, or more, in just coaching fees. One of the foundation’s areas of emphasis involves trying to make participation on travel tournaments less expensive by sponsoring a local lacrosse tournament. Developing a local lacrosse tournament reduces travel expenses for one of the tournaments in which ONS plays. Organizing the tournament can also help reduce our tournament participation fees. If the tournament is successful and grows, in time, a foundation-organized tournament can become a revenue source for the foundation. The foundation’s organizing the Cardinal Cup Lacrosse Tournament is a direct benefit to every parent and player in ONS Lacrosse. A few parents have already spent a good deal of time getting the Cardinal Cup off the ground. Making the Cardinal Cup a successful tournament will involve the active participation of every ONS Lacrosse parent. This tournament is a program-wide, team effort. We need ONS Lacrosse parents to volunteer a few hours of their time at the Cardinal Cup to help manage the tournament. If we make this a well run, welcoming, fun tournament, teams will want to come back again, and more teams will want to come and participate in the future. Please volunteer to help “staff” the Cardinal Cup Tournament.
Thank you.
